Setting Goals and Intentions for the New Year
It’s the beginning of the year and for a lot of people, that means…new year’s resolutions, goal setting, vision boards, and that wonderful “new year, new me” mindset…again.
Why is reinventing ourselves reserved only for the New Year? Why does goal setting always have to start on December 31st of every year? Why do all goals magically have to wait until the beginning of the year to start? I think there is no time like the present to approach the new year differently.

Reflecting on 2021
2021 for me, was a year of change, learning, and breaking free of self-limiting beliefs that I had acquired in the last few years. However, my biggest takeaway from 2021 was beginning to experience FREEDOM from aspects of my life that I was living but didn’t fully envision for my life. It was also about learning to trust myself more and being more intentional about becoming the woman I have envisioned myself to be.
In 2021, like many others, so much changed in my life:
- I started an online handmade jewelry business called Love Tranece.
- I started my blog, Tranece By Design to be able to share my creative journey.
- I moved into a new apartment after living in a crazy space with a roof that leaked…alot.
- I continued to experience this crazy life with my family and friends.
- I REALLY caught the travel bug after traveling to Hawaii for the first time and having an absolutely amazing experience with my boyfriend, Johnathan.
- I left my job for a new opportunity during “The Great Resignation”.
In 2021 I continued to evolve. I continued to learn. I took risks. I continued to grow. All while still fighting through a pandemic.
A lot of things changed for me…mostly for the better….some, I’m still waiting to see. But all in all, change was definitely needed as a creative person and just for my personal growth.
My word for 2021 was FREEDOM and I feel like I was able to achieve what I set out to achieve in 2021. In 2022, I aim to evolve and grow in love, life, and with my businesses and that’s why I chose the word GROWTH for 2022.

Moving into the New Year
Change is inevitable. Procrastination is real. Dreams can come true. All sentiments that I believe and stand behind. The trick is being okay with the idea that you will never fully be ready for everything but be at least willing to take the chance and start now…before you’re ready.
This year, I am challenging myself to find what inspires me to get started on my larger dreamier goals, have the courage to go after what I truly want in life now…rather than later, and make the conscious decision to not limit myself and continue to set big goals and intentions.
I am challenging myself to start today…not tomorrow.
I challenge you to do the same things. What is stopping you from going after the things you really want?
Things you can do anytime you want a change or need inspiration

Make a goals and intentions list
Write them down where you can see them daily. Writing them down helps you to get them out of your head and written down so you can help keep yourself accountable.
Pick a word of intention for the year, month, quarter.
Whatever gets you going. Set your intention and pick something that inspires you.
Make a vision board
Throw a vision board party, create a digital vision board on Canva or procreate, bust out magazines and print off images and glue it on poster board. Whatever you choose for your medium, just do it. You can check out my blog post here if you need help on how to make one or want to learn more on why you should.

Declutter and clean your physical and digital space.
There is seriously nothing better than having a clean desktop and a clean space. It allows your mind to think clearly and start fresh and ready to go.
Set up your planning system.
Whether it’s a digital planner or physical one, or a combination of both, just get organized. It will make your life so much easier knowing you’re not forgetting anything.
Declutter and organize your closet.
Get rid of anything that doesn’t fit or has holes in it, or you just don’t wear anymore. Get rid of the visual clutter in your closet and it will be so much easier to get dressed in the morning.

Take some time off
Take some time off to just be and have downtime – take some “me time” if you can.
Start that business or that thing you’ve always wanted to do.
Do it now. It’s super scary, trust me, but the sooner you start the faster you can become a pro at it. Do something today that will bring you one step closer to your goals, even if it is small.
